Arrival in Sierra Leone

11th May 2015 | Posted in Latest News, Nigel's Blog

Monday 11 May 2015 Arrived last night in Freetown with Katherine and Rachel after a trip via Brussels. All direct flights to Sierra Leone now cancelled. Ian and his helper “Coker” were there to greet up and drive to the ferry where we waited for the ferry to leave. I met Mohmmed, Santa and friends, guys in wheelchairs who beg at the port and whom we have helped over the years. The noise, sounds and smells bombard my senses. The brokenness, not just in the buildings but in people’s eyes as the go about their business.

The Land rover challenges continue with the gear box struggling as we make our way to our team house. There we meet many of Ian’s friends and helpers Been away 10 weeks but such progress in the face of such adversity.

Fatu helps in the house. Studying business so I showed her our video. I was not prepared for her response as she just wept, saying that how the people lived was “pathetic.” Ian out early to fix the land rover and get ready for our visit to the land and the adjacent villages. Today we are seeing the land and meeting the neighbours, to explain what we are trying to do.
