Have you ever been confronted by “compassion fatigue? “This morning in Church, we focused on a passage that I found very difficult. 1 John 3 v 17 said “if anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in them? Let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.”
I have seen some horrific scenes from Sierra Leone this week; piles of bodies, suffering, tears and pain. I realized this morning that I have almost become hardened to seeing it. Each person could be me or my family, had things been different. It galvanises me to weep with those who weep and mourn with those who mourn. That the resources I have now calls for action over my words. But mostly you know I need to soften my heart and learn afresh how to love, forgive and contribute.
