When I led Mission Direct we worked with an amazing group in Sierra Leone called City of Rest. Over the years they have helped some of Sierra Leones most vulnerable people.
As I drove past yesterday I saw the place had been destroyed. City of Rest Rehabilitation Centre, which was a haven of hope and healing for individuals battling mental health disorders and substance abuse, has suffered significant damage due to a fire accident.
City of Rest Rehabilitation Centre is a vision of the late Rev. Morie S. N’gobeh. It offers rehabilitation to persons struggling with substance abuse and mental disorder. The Organization was established in 1986 and has complimented the government’s effort in the health care delivery. They have always worked towards creating a safe and nurturing environment for those struggling with mental health and addiction issues. With a team of dedicated professionals, they have been successful in transforming countless lives and empowering individuals on their journey to recovery.
On the 1st April, 2023, a fire caused extensive damage to the infrastructure, medical equipment, counseling rooms, and dormitories. The incident has not only disrupted the operations but has also left many vulnerable individuals without access to the crucial support they desperately need.
