As I sit and reflect on a key week in Home Leone’s life, I am excited to see we move forward to the day in November when the first houses will start to be built.
After this week with a wonderful team, we have settled on a design for the homes and how they could be laid out on our 20 acres. This results in at least 304 excellent sized homes being able to fit on the site. In addition is a significant primary school, community centre, Primary community Heath centre, Internet café, entertainment centre and many open spaces for people to have markets and enjoy life. Each house will come with a space for an allotment which also separates the spaces. Our expectation is that we will end up with between 1,500 and 1,800 residents in the first pilot village. The water and sewage will flow well in a land with an ideal slope and mean people get fresh water in their homes and their sewage is taken away.
The houses are to be built in compounds of 8 homes, where community living requirements are rooted in listening to people who will be moving. This offers largely 2 bedroom homes with verandas, open kitchens, toilets, wash areas, stores and community areas. The design recognizes ease of construction with great living and reducing heat.
To make the project sustainable we need jobs and the business park is being built to contain a water factory, piggery, chicken farm, bakery, trades centre and set out a possible guest house on site.
I am so thankful to Mark, Bob, Moses, Katherine, Sarah and Joe who have made this next step possible.
