A Room with no view

You are disabled, stricken with polio since you were a little girl and your legs have wasted leaving no power to stand.  You become a single mother in a nation where misunderstanding and discrimination against the disabled mean its hard to make a living, or even survive.  Being a disabled female in one of the poorest countries on earth means survival is a challenge.

Merybelle is part of the Hastings Polio Ladies community and lives in a small room with her children.  Our team painted her room, which over the years had become dingy and with the heavy rains, rather moldy. As she helped paint, her joy was palpable.

People say, why spend that money on an airfare going.  Its not about money, its about relationship, and as we help others, we simply change for good.  These small acts of kindness by volunteers literally improve lives.  Why not volunteer and do something that makes a real difference today.
