A few challenges

Working in Sierra Leone is hard to describe.  There are often obstacles to what you want to achieve and no matter how you try to plan or foresee, things happen.  This morning it was pouring with rain, and then we discovered the generator had run out of fuel.  And my computer battery was on low.  Then the internet, that is supposed to be 24 hour doesn’t work.  As it rains even more traffic comes on the roads and gridlock happens.  A journey that could take 10 minutes can take 2 hours.  When you live in a place with no traffic lights, you learn to appreciate them as traffic does not flow.

Yesterday, Joe and I had to get out to plead with people who were coming up the side of traffic and in doing so just blocked the entire junction.  Logic didn’t work but persistence won out in the end.  Time is different and what you can achieve needs a dose of pragmatism.  Yet step by step we edge forward.

Today is significant as we will visit a water business and drop off some aid supplies to flood victims with our friends at the Federation of Slum dwellers.  We then meet to hear what plans someone is recommending on Low cost housing and then to talk to DFID about our plans.

Thanks for your love and support.
